I'm going to have to go old school here and say that Donkey Kong is my favorite video game of all time (barely nudging out Tecmo). What's not to love about Donkey Kong? It's a love story. It features barrels, flames and odd killer pies. And it's all backed by the most ear-pleasing of soundtracks. See for yourself
For the best at home experience I recommend the Atari 800.

After a superficial reading of the 'facts,' I find the whole scenario simply hysterical (in both senses of the word). Could we have a better cast of characters? On one hand the villian: a seemingly illiterate, tone-deaf editor of a newsletter masquerading as a magazine who trolls the 'netz looking for material to ctrl-c ctrl-v. On the other hand the victim: a knitting, Middle Ages loving, recipe writing, LJ keeping author. And in between the real protagonist of our tale: the web itself in all of its freewheeling mob-justice glory... Standing up for the victim or simply looking for a victim of its own?

According to Chris Dixon's tweet this morning, approximately 40% of eCommerce purchases are "preceded by a click on an automated recommendation for that product." I find that to be an amazing statistic. I also wonder what percentage of purchases is preceded by an personal recommendation.
Consider for a moment the impact of an algorithm or generalized landing-page that improved product recommendations by 5%. Comscore tells us that the US online eCommerce market generated $32.1 billion in gross merchandise volume in the latest quarter. So we're looking at a $140 billion domestic market.
$140b * 40% = $56b
$56b * 5% = $2.8b
Maybe US eCommerce is about half the global market? Improving product recommendations is a $5b GMV opportunity.
